Auditions for 2019-2020 will be held August 29-31 at the Williams Performing Arts Center at ACU. Auditions will be heard by a panel of teachers from all three universities.
Thursday, Aug 29, 6:00-9:00 p.m. - Brass
Friday Aug 30, 6:00-9:00 p.m. - Woodwinds and Percussion
Saturday, Aug 31, 10:00-Noon; 1:00-4:00 - Strings
Please bring a prepared piece (solo, etude, excerpt of your choice), and prepare the following excerpts that are linked below. Recordings for the Rimsky Korsakov Suite from Mlada are readily available on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube and Naxos online. You are strongly encouraged to listen to a recording! (The D’Angelo is not available)
Strings - Audition is for seating in the group only. Violins - play EITHER Violin I or Violin II excerpts, not both. (Violin I is preferred, but Violin II is acceptable if it better fits your ability level.)
Woodwinds & Brass - Generally speaking the instrumentation is woodwinds in pairs plus piccolo, english horn, and bass clarinet, 4-5 horns, 3-4 trumpets, 3-4 trombones and 1 Tuba. We do expand those numbers depending on the repertoire and other factors.
For piccolo, english horn, bass clarinet, and Eb clarinet you must audition on flute, oboe, and clarinet (respectively) as well. Your prepared solo may be on either instrument.
For bass trombone/trombone 3, you may audition only for that part. You may audition on tenor trombone as well if you choose (encouraged).
Percussion - 4-6 players. Please play all the excerpts included. You will NOT need to bring a prepared solo.
University students - this does not enroll you in the class. Make sure you take care of that with your advisor.
