(This information is for auditioning for the orchestra. To audition for scholarships and acceptance at our three universities, please contact the music departments at ACU, HSU, and McM. Please go ahead and enroll!)

Audition information for 2026-2027

Audition an uploaded video OR a G Drive/YouTube/Vimeo link (link preferred). This is handled through the audition sign up form below. Make sure if you provide a link it is public/viewable. Please have excerpts and solo in ONE video, in ONE take. Play the excerpts first, then the solo.

BRASS AND WOODWINDS - Excerpts and a solo (solo no longer than 3-5 minutes). Form/videos are due SUNDAY AUG 30 at 11:59 p.m. Our first full rehearsal will be THURSDAY SEPT 3 AT 7:00 p.m.

  • If you are interested in auditioning on Piccolo, you must audition on flute. No piccolo solo, only the excerpts. Use a separate form or include the piccolo excerpts in your flute audition video.

  • If you are interested in auditioning on English horn, you must audition on oboe. Play a solo (no excerpts) and use a separate form or include it in your oboe audition video.

  • If you audition on Bass Clarinet you must audition on Bb as well. Play a solo (no excerpts) and use a separate form or include it in your Bb audition video.

  • Trombone - you may audition for tenor OR bass, but you are strongly encouraged to audition on both. Fill out a separate audition form if you audition on both.

  • BRASS - while the standard number is 4-5.3.3.1, we often accept more players than that for rotating, fanfares, and additional parts.

STRINGS - Excerpts and a solo (solo no longer than 3-5min). Reminder this is for placement in the section(s) ONLY. Form/videos are due WEDNESDAY AUG 26 at 6:00 p.m. We WILL meet the first day of class MONDAY AUG 24 at 5:00p but we will not rehearse. Our first rehearsal will be strings only THURS AUG 27 AT 7:00 p.m.

PERCUSSION - No audition required. Sign up only, but please sign up right away and go ahead and enroll.

Auditioning does not enroll you in the class. Make sure you take care of that with your advisor at your institution. I STRONGLY encourage you to go ahead and enroll in orchestra if you are auditioning. It is much easier to drop a class than add one!!
